Iran tension window: Saturn ingress to Aries on the 1979 chart.
Between 1 April and 30 September 2027 the 1979 Islamic Republic of Iran chart enters a structural-tension band: Saturn passes through late Pisces in the chart's 8th house aspecting the natal Sun, then ingresses sidereal Aries on 23 May 2027 to enter the 9th house of dharma and foreign posture. The call carries three named falsifier conditions and a published reconciliation timeline.
The 1979 founding chart
Tempora reads the Islamic Republic of Iran on the 1 April 1979 founding chart. The moment is Ayatollah Khomeini's formal proclamation of the Islamic Republic following the 30 to 31 March 1979 referendum in which voters approved the new constitutional form by an overwhelming margin. The proclamation was made in Tehran on the afternoon of 1 April 1979. Mundane astrology references for this chart converge on a mid-afternoon clock time; Tempora's canonical anchor is 15:00 IRST with a documented plus or minus 60-minute uncertainty. Iran did not observe daylight-saving time in 1979, so the standard offset of UTC+3:30 applies. The chart is published in the Tempora corpus at tools/natals/iran_1979.json with full provenance and the methodology caveat printed in the file.
At 15:00 IRST the lagna (the rising sign on the eastern horizon, the chart's first house) is Leo at 7 degrees in Magha nakshatra. The lagna lord is the Sun, which sits in Pisces in the 8th house at 18 degrees, conjunct Mars at 3 degrees Pisces and Mercury (retrograde) at 5 degrees Pisces. The Moon is in Taurus at 15 degrees in the 10th house. Saturn (retrograde) at 16 degrees Leo and Rahu, the ascending lunar node, at 24 degrees Leo both sit in the 1st house alongside the lagna. Jupiter is in Cancer at 7 degrees in the 12th house. Venus is in Aquarius in the 7th house and Ketu, the descending lunar node, opposes Rahu at 24 degrees Aquarius in the 7th. The chart is sidereal in the True Pushya Paksha ayanamsa attributed to PVRN Rao, computed via Swiss Ephemeris.
Two structural features of this chart matter for the 2027 read. First, the lagna lord Sun sits in the 8th house: classical mundane astrology reads the 8th house as transformation, sudden change, hidden assets, the end-of-life of regimes and the conditions under which a ruling form is forced to mutate. A king-significator in the house of mutation is the structural fingerprint of a regime that institutionalises crisis as part of its standing posture. Second, Saturn and Rahu sit together in the 1st house. Saturn-Rahu in the lagna of a national chart is the fingerprint of a regime founded under conditions of structural pressure and one whose self-image is built around endurance under that pressure. These two features are stable across the plus or minus 60-minute time uncertainty band; the slow-mover sign placements do not move at minute resolution and the Sun's position in Pisces is robust within the window. Lagna-degree readings and Moon-house readings are not robust to the time uncertainty and the analysis below does not lean on either.
What Saturn does in 2027
Saturn (Sanskrit Shani, the planetary lord of structure, time, restriction and consequence) entered sidereal Pisces in March 2025 and remains in the sign through May 2027. Across early 2027 the transit reaches its closest aspect to Iran's natal Sun at 18 degrees Pisces. The orb tightens to within 3 degrees in mid-January 2027 and reaches exact conjunction around 15 February 2027, opening again through April. This is the 8th-house tail of the Pisces transit on the 1979 chart. Classical mundane astrology reads transit Saturn forming exact conjunction with the natal lagna lord in the 8th house as the structural-pressure signature on the head of state and on the regime's institutional spine: the chart is being asked to tighten, replace or restructure leadership functions that have been allowed to drift.
Saturn ingresses sidereal Aries on 23 May 2027, computed with True Pushya Paksha ayanamsa via Swiss Ephemeris. On the 1979 chart with Leo lagna, Aries is the 9th house. Classical mundane astrology reads the 9th house as the house of dharma (the moral and religious charter the state claims), foreign relations and long-distance reach, the higher legal and ideological frame, and the structural relationship to teachers, clerics and ideological authority. The Islamic Republic's foundational claim is religious and ideological, not territorial; the 9th house is therefore the house that carries the regime's foundational claim more directly than for most national charts. Saturn ingressing the 9th is the structural signature of the chart's foundational claim itself coming under structural pressure.
Saturn does not stay in Aries continuously. Per the same ephemeris it stations retrograde in Aries in mid-July 2027, retrogrades back into Pisces on 4 November 2027, then re-ingresses Aries on 11 February 2028. The 2027 Aries transit is therefore a multi-month opening segment with a longer continuation into 2028. The window named in this article is the opening segment, 1 April to 30 September 2027, which captures both the 8th-house Saturn-Sun aspect tail and the 9th-house Saturn-Aries opening with their tightest joint structural orb on the 1979 chart.
The 8th-into-9th sequence
The structural reading of the window is sequential rather than overlapping. The 8th-house transit of Saturn in early 2027 builds pressure on the regime's leadership functions and on the state's institutional spine through January, February and March. The Aries ingress on 23 May is the structural reset point: the same body that has been pressuring the chart's leadership-house now moves into the chart's foundational-claim house. Whatever has accumulated under the 8th-house pressure either resolves in the 9th-house transition or it does not. The published call is that one of three named conditions becomes more probable inside this six-month band than at any prior stretch since Saturn's last comparable transit on this chart in 1998 and the prior in 1969 to 1970.
Tempora is not staking the call on a rare-signature lift figure of the kind used in the Russia February 2028 forecast. The Iran 1979 chart is not part of Tempora's six-chart calibrated library and the lift figure for Saturn-natal-Sun on this chart has not been computed against a backtest. The call is published as a structural read with the chart's positions verifiable from the published natal file and the transit dates verifiable against any standard ephemeris that exposes a sidereal frame. The call's commitment is the published falsifier and the published reconciliation timeline, not a calibrated probability number. The methodology is documented in how to read a country's birth chart and the falsifiable framework around it is documented in falsifiable astrology.

Falsifier conditions
This call is wrong if none of the following three conditions occurs between 1 April 2027 and 30 September 2027 inclusive. Each condition is deliberately written so that a working journalist using public news sources can check it against the named window.
- Leadership change. A change of person at the level of Supreme Leader (Rahbar), President of the Islamic Republic, or Speaker of the Majlis (parliament) inside the window. Leadership change for the purposes of this falsifier means resignation, removal, incapacitation, replacement or natural transition documented in major public news sources. Cabinet reshuffles, ministerial replacements outside these three roles and parliamentary committee changes do not qualify.
- Military escalation crossing a documented threshold. Either direct kinetic strikes between Iran and Israel or Saudi Arabia or the United States claimed publicly by either side and reported in major international wire services inside the window, or a formal Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps mobilization announcement made by an official Iranian state body inside the window. Proxy actions through third parties, drone interceptions over the Gulf without claimed state-on-state attribution and routine exercises do not qualify. The threshold is a publicly named state-on-state escalation event of the kind that prompts United Nations Security Council attention.
- Documented economic event. One of three thresholds: a rial collapse below 1,500,000 IRR per US dollar measured on the open-market rate at any point inside the window (open-market rate as published by Bonbast or comparable Iranian rate tracker), or a formal sovereign debt default declared by Iran or by an international body inside the window, or an oil-export disruption recorded at more than 30 per cent below the 12-month rolling baseline of Iranian crude exports immediately preceding the window, as reported in major energy-sector wire services or the International Energy Agency monthly oil reports. Day-to-day rial volatility within the prior trading band, routine sanctions adjustments and seasonal export variation do not qualify.
If none of these three conditions is met by 23:59 UTC on 30 September 2027, the call fails. The methodology is in question, not the analyst. Misses are recorded on tempora.ltd/tracker and stay on the page indefinitely.
What we are not predicting
Tempora's framework reads structural pressure on a national chart. It does not predict the specific resolution of an event, the actor responsible, the direction of any escalation or any normative judgement on Iran's politics or any party in regional disagreements. The published call is that the chart enters a tension-shaped window. What fills the window is determined by the actors who occupy the political and military system at the time. The signal is closer to a barometer reading than to a weather forecast.
Concretely, this article does not predict.
- Which side of any regional tension Iran moves on. Escalation and de-escalation are both compatible with an elevated window provided either is sudden and crosses the documented threshold listed above.
- The specific person who occupies a given role inside or after the window. A leadership change at Supreme Leader, President or Speaker level qualifies for the falsifier whichever individual is involved.
- The exact date inside the window. Events anywhere in the 1 April to 30 September 2027 stretch count for tracker scoring.
- Any normative position on the Islamic Republic, on any party in regional conflicts or on any state's policy. The framing is structural; the chart is read as a chart.
Why this window and not another
2027 has two notional candidate windows on the Iran 1979 chart from the Saturn transit alone. The first is the late-Pisces 8th-house transit between mid-January and late March 2027 when Saturn is within tight orb of natal Sun. The second is the Aries 9th-house transit from 23 May 2027 onward. The two are adjacent rather than overlapping. The framework reads the first as the pressure-build phase and the second as the structural-reset phase, and the question is whether to anchor a window on one phase or the other. Tempora chose to bridge them.
The 1 April to 30 September 2027 window captures the 8th-house orb tail (April reopens to roughly 5 to 6 degrees on natal Sun before Saturn moves out) and the full opening of the 9th-house Aries transit through to the late-window retrograde stationing. A window anchored only on the 8th-house phase (January to March 2027) would miss the foundational-claim signature that is the more diagnostic part of this read for an Islamic Republic chart. A window anchored only on the 9th-house phase (June to September 2027) would miss the 8th-house pressure-build that the framework reads as the precursor. The bridged window forces a single falsifier across both phases, which is a cleaner structural test than two adjacent fragmented windows.
Other 2027 stretches were considered and rejected. Jupiter spends 2027 in sidereal Cancer and Leo and does not form a tight aspect to a load-bearing natal point on this chart inside the window. Rahu transits Pisces and Aquarius across 2027 and forms its own configurations on the chart but the Rahu return on the 1979 chart culminates in 2034, well outside the present read. Mars-Saturn conjunctions in 2027 do not fall on natal sensitive points of this chart at structurally-significant moments. The 1 April to 30 September 2027 stretch is the only 2027 window with a coherent two-phase Saturn signature on the 1979 chart.
Confidence framing
This call sits in Tempora's lower-confidence tier. The Iran 1979 chart is not part of the calibrated six-chart library that backs the Russia February 2028 and India December 2027 forecasts. There is no published lift figure for Saturn-natal-Sun on this chart, and the named-precedent set has not been enumerated against a 30-year backtest of qualifying Iranian events. The structural read is published because the configuration is unusually clean (an 8th-into-9th Saturn sequence over a chart with the 8th-house Sun-Mars-Mercury cluster is rare on national charts) and because Iran sits at a regional inflection point where a windowed call with a published falsifier is a more honest contribution than silence. A miss against this configuration would not invalidate the calibrated layer of Tempora's framework; it would tell us that the structural-only layer requires more discipline before further uncalibrated forward calls.
The strongest priors on this read come from the chart's own structure rather than from a calibrated lift number: the lagna lord sitting in the 8th house, Saturn-Rahu sitting in the lagna sign, and the 9th house being load-bearing for an Islamic Republic chart whose foundational claim is religious and ideological. The transit sequence on a chart with that structure is what the framework reads as more likely than not to surface one of the three named falsifier conditions inside the window, not as certainty.
Reconciliation timeline
Tempora will publish the reconciliation within 30 days of window close on 30 September 2027, regardless of which way the result runs. If a leadership change at Supreme Leader, President or Speaker level, a documented military escalation crossing the named threshold, or a documented economic event meeting the named threshold occurs inside the window, the post-mortem will document the precise event, the configuration on the day, the dasha (planetary period) state of the chart and the lessons for calibration. If the window closes with no qualifying event, the reconciliation will document the miss, mark the call failed in the public tracker and propose what part of the structural-only chart-reading framework requires revision. Either way the file is closed in public on tempora.ltd/tracker by 30 October 2027 at the latest and stays on the page indefinitely.
Position in the forward-call sequence
The Iran call sits inside Tempora's broader 2027 to 2028 geopolitics sequence. The Russia-Ukraine resolution window for Q3 2027 brackets the same year on a calibrated chart with a different structural fingerprint. The Russia February 2028 forecast is the early-2028 escalation window on the same Russia chart. The Iran 2027 window stands earlier in the year than the Russia Q3 2027 window and uses a different structural mechanism (Saturn ingress on a Leo-lagna chart) rather than a calibrated rare-signature lift. Reading the three together gives a picture of which national charts are loaded across the same year and where the structural pressures concentrate. None of the three calls implies anything about the others; each is its own published commitment with its own falsifier and its own reconciliation date.
The methodology behind reading a country's natal chart, including the canonical-chart selection problem, the ascendant uncertainty issue and the published lift conventions for charts that do carry calibrated signatures, is documented in how to read a country's birth chart. The framework's commitment to publishing in advance of resolution is documented in falsifiable astrology. The live ledger of all open Tempora windows, including this one, is at tempora.ltd/tracker.

Frequently asked questions
What is Tempora's Iran March 2027 call?
Tempora's Iran call is a tension-shaped window between 1 April 2027 and 30 September 2027 read against the 1 April 1979 Islamic Republic of Iran founding chart. The window straddles two structural transits: Saturn (Sanskrit Shani) moving through late Pisces sidereal in the chart's 8th house and aspecting the natal Sun in early 2027, and Saturn's ingress into sidereal Aries on 23 May 2027 (computed using True Pushya Paksha ayanamsa via Swiss Ephemeris), which moves Saturn into the chart's 9th house of dharma, foreign posture and ideological reach. The call has three named falsifier conditions covering leadership change, military escalation crossing a documented threshold, or a documented economic event. Reconciliation publishes within 30 days of window close on 30 September 2027.
Which Iran chart does Tempora use and why?
Tempora uses the 1 April 1979 Islamic Republic of Iran founding chart cast for 15:00 IRST in Tehran. The moment is Ayatollah Khomeini's formal proclamation of the Islamic Republic following the 30-31 March 1979 referendum. The 15:00 anchor is the canonical convergence point in mundane astrology references; the chart carries a documented plus or minus 60-minute time uncertainty which the analysis discloses up front. At 15:00 IRST the lagna (ascendant) is Leo, with Saturn and Rahu sitting in the lagna sign and the Sun-Mars-Mercury cluster in the 8th house in Pisces. Slow-mover sign placements are stable across the time-uncertainty band; lagna and Moon-house attribution are not. The chart is published in tools/natals/iran_1979.json with full provenance, sources and the methodology caveat.
What does Saturn entering Aries do on Iran's 1979 chart?
Saturn ingresses sidereal Aries on 23 May 2027 (True Pushya Paksha ayanamsa, Swiss Ephemeris). On the 1979 chart with Leo lagna, Aries is the 9th house, conventionally read in classical Vedic mundane astrology as the house of dharma, religious and ideological authority, foreign relations and long-distance reach, and the moral charter the regime claims. Saturn (Shani) in the 9th house is read as structural pressure on the regime's claimed moral authority and its foreign-relations posture. The Aries ingress also follows a Saturn transit through late Pisces in the 8th house in early 2027, which aspected the natal Sun (the planetary lord of leadership and the king-significator) within 3 degrees through January, February and March 2027. The 8th-into-9th sequence is the structural fingerprint Tempora reads as a tension window rather than a crisis prediction.
What falsifier conditions does Tempora commit to?
This call is wrong if none of the following three conditions occurs between 1 April 2027 and 30 September 2027 inclusive. First, a leadership change at the level of Supreme Leader, President or Speaker of the Majlis, where leadership change means resignation, removal, incapacitation, replacement or natural transition documented in public news. Second, a military escalation crossing a documented threshold inside the window, defined as direct kinetic strikes between Iran and Israel or Saudi Arabia or the United States claimed publicly by either side, or a formal IRGC mobilization announcement. Third, an economic event meeting one of three thresholds: a rial collapse below 1,500,000 IRR per US dollar on the open-market rate, a formal sovereign debt default declared by Iran or by an international body, or an oil-export disruption recorded at more than 30 per cent below the 12-month rolling baseline immediately preceding the window. If none of these by 23:59 UTC on 30 September 2027, the call fails.
Is this a prediction about politics or war?
Neither. The call is structural: Tempora reads transit pressure on a national chart and commits to a window where one of three named conditions becomes more probable than at any prior stretch. The framework does not predict the specific actor, the specific direction, the specific terms, or which side of any regional disagreement is responsible. Tempora holds no political affiliation and makes no normative claim about Iran's politics or any party in regional conflicts. The framing is closer to a barometer reading than to a weather forecast. Iran is read as a chart, not as a position on a regional debate. The article documents which structural conditions Tempora reads on the chart and lists the public conditions that would falsify the reading.
When and how will Tempora publish the reconciliation?
Tempora will publish the reconciliation within 30 days of window close on 30 September 2027, regardless of which way the result runs. If a leadership change, a documented military escalation or a documented economic event occurs inside the window, the reconciliation will document the precise event, the configuration on the day, the dasha state of the chart and the lessons for calibration. If the window closes with no qualifying event, the reconciliation will document the miss, mark the call failed in the public tracker and propose what part of the chart-reading framework requires revision. Either way the file is closed in public on tempora.ltd/tracker by 30 October 2027 at the latest and stays on the page indefinitely.
