Listings Do Not Pause for the Retrograde: The October Test

Published 27 August 2026

The folk claim is that businesses defer launches during Mercury retrograde. In July 2026 this site tested the suppression version of that claim on India’s primary market and it failed in the open: roughly fifteen mainboard listings landed in a month we had called quiet. This entry runs the symmetric test on the next retrograde, computed at 24 October to 13 November 2026: mainboard listings inside the window number at least as many as in the preceding window of equal length. The window contains Diwali and the muhurat session, which is precisely why the suppression claim faces its hardest case.

Tempora's call. Combined NSE and BSE mainboard IPO listings during 24 October to 13 November 2026 number at least as many as combined mainboard listings during the preceding 21-day window of 3 to 23 October 2026. At least as many fires MET. Fewer fires FAILED. Reference: NSE and BSE listing records.

Stated probability 0.6 against a base rate of 0.55. The July 2026 suppression call failed against heavy primary-market activity, and the retrograde window this time contains the Diwali muhurat period, which historically concentrates listings. The base is near coin because 21-day listing counts are lumpy; the tilt follows the festive calendar rather than any chart claim.

Design and lineage

Symmetric retest after IPO2026JUL graded FAILED (suppression version). Lesson applied: relative comparison against an adjacent equal window rather than an absolute count (M2 family). The retrograde dates are computed on the Swiss Ephemeris with stations at daily resolution refined to the hour; the entry makes no directional chart claim beyond the computed window itself.

How it reconciles

The verdict publishes by 20 November 2026 on this page and on the public board, quoting the reference source named in the call. A failed entry is graded at full weight and stays on the board with its reasoning unedited.

Frequently asked

What does this entry actually test?

Whether India’s primary market lists fewer companies during the Mercury retrograde than in the equal window before it. The July version tested outright suppression and failed; this version tests the comparison directly.

Why does the window containing Diwali matter?

Muhurat-period listings are a festive tradition, so the retrograde window arrives with a structural tailwind. If listings still fell, the suppression claim would have survived its hardest case. The design confronts the folk claim rather than sheltering it.

What are the exact retrograde dates?

Computed on this site’s engine: Mercury stations retrograde near 24 October 2026 and direct near 13 to 14 November 2026. The station hours are refined on the ephemeris and the window bounds are stated in the falsifier.
