Venus transit 2027: sign changes and combustion dates that close wedding windows

Venus changes sign fourteen times in 2027 and spends 73 days of the summer too close to the Sun to be seen. In the classical rules for choosing a wedding date that invisibility closes the window, whatever the almanac says about the day. This page carries every Venus sign change of 2027, every combustion window from 2026 to 2027, the Jupiter combustion that acts as the second closer and a line-by-line check of the 57 wedding dates Tempora published for 2027 against both.

The dates, in one place. Under the True Pushya Paksha ayanamsa, computed with Swiss Ephemeris, Venus is combust from 6 July 2027 at 20:43 IST to 17 September 2027 at 22:49 IST, using the classical orb of 10 degrees while direct, with the exact conjunction on 12 August 2027 in Cancer. Jupiter is combust from 16 August to 15 September 2027 at the 11 degree orb. Of the 57 vivah dates on Tempora's 2027 marriage muhurat calendar, two fall inside the Venus window, 9 and 10 July 2027, and 55 survive. Venus is direct all year; its retrogrades fall in October to November 2026 and May to June 2028. All dates are Indian Standard Time. This page is context and method, not a scored forecast.

What combustion is, mechanically

Venus orbits inside the Earth's orbit, so from here it never strays more than about 47 degrees from the Sun. Twice in each 584 day cycle it passes the Sun in our sky. When Venus is on the far side of the Sun, moving direct and at its smallest and faintest, the passage is the superior conjunction; when it is between us and the Sun, moving retrograde and at its largest, the passage is the inferior conjunction. Around either passage the planet is lost in the glare and cannot be seen. The classical texts call this state combust, the word for burnt, and treat a combust planet as unable to deliver what it signifies.

The orbs are conventional and this page states the ones it uses. For Venus the classical figures are 10 degrees of angular separation from the Sun while direct and 8 degrees while retrograde, the smaller orb reflecting that a retrograde Venus is much brighter and reappears sooner. For Jupiter the figure is 11 degrees. Separation is measured on the engine's sidereal longitudes as the shorter arc between the two bodies, either side of the Sun. A superior-conjunction combustion is long, because Venus and the Sun travel at nearly the same speed when Venus is on the far side; the 2027 pass lasts 73 days. An inferior-conjunction combustion is short, because retrograde Venus crosses the Sun quickly; the October 2026 pass lasts 10 days.

Why muhurta, the classical practice of choosing a time, cares: Venus is the significator of marriage, of the bride, of pleasure and of the household's harmony, and Jupiter is the significator of the husband, of children and of the sanction of elders. The texts hold that a ceremony begun while its significator is invisible lacks the planet's support, and most lineages list a combust Venus or Jupiter among the conditions that forbid a wedding outright, alongside the four-month pause called chaturmas and the month when the Sun occupies sidereal Sagittarius or Pisces. The 2027 muhurat calendar applied all of those filters and this page re-examines the two combustion filters on their own.

Venus through the signs in 2027

Venus moves about 1.2 degrees a day when direct, so it spends about 25 days in each sign and runs through the whole zodiac in a year when there is no retrograde. Each change below was found by a daily scan of the engine's sidereal Venus longitude for a change of sign, narrowed to the minute, then converted from Universal Time to IST by adding five hours thirty minutes. Venus begins 2027 at 0.16 degrees of Scorpio, having entered the sign late on 31 December 2026. Where a crossing falls between midnight and 05:30 IST a UTC listing shows the previous day; those rows are marked.

Dignity is the classical term for how comfortable a planet is in a sign. Venus is exalted in Pisces, debilitated in Virgo and rules Taurus and Libra, its own signs. In 2027 that gives an exalted Venus from 14 April to 9 May, a stretch which carries nine of the year's listed wedding dates, and a debilitated Venus from 8 September to 2 October. The debilitation overlaps the end of the combustion: from 8 to 17 September Venus is both debilitated and combust, the weakest ten days of the year for the planet, and they fall inside chaturmas when no wedding date was admitted anyway. Venus in its own sign Libra from 2 to 27 October is the strong stretch before the November season opens.

Venus combustion windows, 2026 to 2027

Scanning every day of 2026 and 2027 at the stated orbs gives three windows. The first was already open on 1 January 2026, having begun on 26 November 2025.

The 2027 window runs through three signs. Venus is combust in Gemini from 6 July, crosses into Cancer on 22 July still combust, meets the Sun at 26 degrees Cancer on 12 August, crosses into Leo on 15 August and into Virgo on 8 September, and emerges from the glare at 11 degrees Virgo on 17 September. The 2027 muhurat page used a single 9 degree orb for Venus, a common middle convention; at that orb the window runs 10 July to 14 September. The difference matters for exactly one listed date, discussed below.

The October 2026 window is the one relevant to the current season. It closed on 29 October 2026, so none of the ten dates on the November and December 2026 calendar is touched by Venus combustion. Venus turned direct on 14 November 2026 at 29.76 Virgo, in its debilitation sign, and returned to its own sign Libra on 17 November 2026; the first listed date of that season is 20 November, so all ten fall with Venus direct and in its own sign.

Venus retrograde, 2026 and 2028

Venus retrogrades for about six weeks once every 19 months, and the two retrogrades that bracket 2027 both fall outside it. The stations below were found by scanning the engine's Venus speed for a change of sign and narrowing to the minute.

EventDate and time (IST)Position (sidereal)

Because Venus is direct for all of 2027, the year's single combustion is the long superior kind. The 2026 retrograde carried Venus from its own sign Libra back into Virgo, its debilitation sign, from 10 to 17 November, turning direct there on 14 November, a detail some readers of the November 2026 season will want. The 2028 retrograde sits entirely in Taurus, Venus's other own sign, with the inferior conjunction and its short combustion falling in late May 2028; that window is outside the scope of this page and will be computed when the 2028 calendar is built.

Jupiter combustion 2027, the other closer

Jupiter is combust once a year, for about a month around its conjunction with the Sun. In 2027 the window at the 11 degree orb runs from 16 August at 19:43 IST to 15 September at 03:13 IST, 29 days, with the exact conjunction on 31 August at 13:00 IST at 14.58 degrees Leo. The 15 September end falls at 03:13 IST, so UTC listings show 14 September. Jupiter and Venus are therefore both combust from 16 August to 15 September 2027, and Venus alone for five weeks either side of that.

In practice the Jupiter window removes no listed date on its own, because every day of it also falls inside chaturmas, the four-month pause in marriages, which on the 2027 calendar's own computation runs from 16 July to 2 August and again from 12 August to 9 November. The 2027 calendar counts 29 days with Jupiter combust, 17 August to 14 September at its sunrise reference hour, and every one of them also falls in chaturmas. Jupiter's own 2027 transit, the exit from exalted Cancer on 19 June and the walk through Leo, is dated on the Jupiter transit 2027 page.

The 57 listed wedding dates against the combustion windows

This is the check the page exists for. Each of the 57 dates on Tempora's 2027 marriage muhurat calendar was read from that page and tested at noon IST against the Venus window at the 10 and 8 degree orbs and the Jupiter window at 11 degrees. The table gives Venus's sign and degree on the day, its separation from the Sun, Jupiter's separation from the Sun and the verdict. The grade column repeats the calendar's own grade.

The result: 55 of the 57 dates survive both combustion checks. The two that fall are 9 July 2027, a Friday with the Moon in Uttara Phalguni, and 10 July 2027, a Saturday with the Moon in Hasta, the last two admitted dates before chaturmas closes the season. On 9 July Venus sits 9.3 degrees from the Sun and on 10 July 9.0 degrees, so at the 10 degree orb this page uses both are combust. At the 9 degree orb the calendar page used, 9 July is clear and 10 July is on the line, with Venus crossing 9 degrees of separation during that day. Families using a 10 degree orb should treat the season as ending on 2 July 2027; families using 9 degrees or less keep 9 July and should take advice on 10 July. This is the entire practical difference between the conventions for 2027, and it is worth knowing before a date is fixed.

Venus combustion also explains the empty first half of August. On the calendar's computation the days from 3 to 11 August 2027 fall in a gap in chaturmas, and four of them, 4, 6, 8 and 11 August, clear every other filter as well. Venus is within 2.5 degrees of the Sun throughout that stretch, with the exact conjunction on 12 August, so those days stay closed at any of the orbs in use. A list that shows wedding dates in early August 2027 has not applied the Venus combustion rule.

Everything else on the calendar is comfortably clear. The January to March dates have Venus 38 to 47 degrees from the Sun, the April to early July dates 11 to 30 degrees, and the November and December dates 23 to 31 degrees. Jupiter is at least 39 degrees from the Sun on every listed date.

Why Venus combustion matters in muhurta, and the limits

The rule has a clear logic inside the system. Muhurta works by stacking supports under a beginning: a lunar mansion suited to the act, a lunar day that is not empty, a weekday, an ascendant and the significator planets visible and strong. A wedding is Venus's own act, so the texts want Venus above the horizon of visibility. The same logic bars Jupiter combust, because Jupiter sanctions the union, and bars the Sun's months in Sagittarius and Pisces, when Jupiter's signs are occupied by the Sun. None of this is a claim about the astronomy harming anyone; it is a claim about which supports are present.

Now the limits, which are substantial. First, regional practice differs. Orbs of 8, 9, 10 and 12 degrees are all in use for Venus. Some lineages waive combustion when Venus is in its own or exaltation sign, and many families follow the calendar their priest or community uses regardless of what a computed list says. Second, the almanac tradition itself is not uniform on the contested lunar mansions or on the weekday grades, which is why the 2027 calendar marks some dates as admitted with the weekday varying by tradition. Third, and most important, the transit sets the day; it does not set the marriage. The strength and placement of Venus in the natal chart, the condition of the 7th house and its lord, the Navamsa (the ninth divisional chart, which the tradition reads specifically for marriage) and the planetary period running at the time of the wedding carry far more weight in classical teaching than the sky on the day. Venus and marriage timing sets out the natal side, the Venus period page covers the twenty-year Venus period and the Navamsa explainer shows how the D9 is computed and read.

Fourth, no study Tempora has run separates marriages begun under a combust Venus from the base rate on any outcome, and the honest position is that the rule is a classical convention this page has dated precisely, not a measured effect. Treat the combustion windows as exact, the closure rule as the tradition's and the decision as yours.

Why these dates differ from other listings

The combustion and station dates on this page will match any correctly computed source, in any zodiac, because they are angles and speeds, not sign positions. The sign-change dates will differ. Western pages use the tropical zodiac, about 23 degrees ahead of the sidereal one, so their Venus is a sign further on. Sidereal pages mostly use the Lahiri ayanamsa, which this engine measures at 24.24 degrees in 2027 against 23.10 for True Pushya Paksha, a difference of 1.13 degrees, or about one day of Venus motion. So a Lahiri listing will put each sign change roughly a day later than the table above, and the exaltation and debilitation stretches a day later too. The mechanism is explained once for every dated page in this corpus on the Saturn transit page.

For couples and for the individual chart

Choosing a date is the last step. Before it come two questions the transit cannot answer: how Venus stands in each chart, and how the two charts stand together. Kaal Match reads two birth charts side by side, including the Navamsa overlay and the dasha overlap, for couples deciding whether and when. For your own chart, Kaal Imprint draws it for free from your date, time and place of birth and shows where Venus sits, which house it rules and which period you are running against the 2027 windows above.

Frequently asked

When is Venus combust in 2027?

Under the True Pushya Paksha ayanamsa, computed with Swiss Ephemeris, Venus is within 10 degrees of the Sun from 6 July 2027 to 17 September 2027, with the exact superior conjunction on 12 August 2027 in sidereal Cancer. That is the only Venus combustion of 2027. The next one before it was the short retrograde combustion of 19 to 29 October 2026 at the 8 degree orb used when Venus is retrograde.

Does Venus combustion cancel a wedding muhurat?

In the classical muhurta texts a combust Venus, called asta, closes the window for marriage, along with a combust Jupiter. Of the 57 vivah dates listed on Tempora's 2027 marriage muhurat page, two fall inside the 10 degree Venus combustion window: 9 and 10 July 2027. The other 55 survive both the Venus and Jupiter checks. Regional practice differs on the exact orb, and many families follow their own priest's calendar.

When is Jupiter combust in 2027?

At the classical 11 degree orb, Jupiter is combust from 16 August 2027 to 15 September 2027, with the exact conjunction on 31 August 2027 in sidereal Leo. Jupiter and Venus are both combust between 16 August and 15 September, but that stretch already falls inside chaturmas, the four-month pause in which marriages are conventionally avoided, so it removes no listed wedding date on its own.

Is Venus retrograde in 2027?

No. Venus retrogrades about every 19 months. The cycle before 2027 ran from 3 October 2026 at 15 degrees Libra to 14 November 2026 at 30 degrees Virgo, and the next runs from 11 May 2028 to 23 June 2028 in Taurus. Venus is direct for the whole of 2027, which is why its 2027 combustion is a long superior-conjunction pass of 73 days.

Which signs does Venus pass through in 2027?

Venus starts 2027 at 0 degrees Scorpio and makes fourteen sign changes: Sagittarius on 28 January, Capricorn on 23 February, Aquarius on 20 March, Pisces (its exaltation sign) on 14 April, Aries on 9 May, Taurus (own sign) on 3 June, Gemini on 27 June, Cancer on 22 July, Leo on 15 August, Virgo (its debilitation sign) on 8 September, Libra (own sign) on 2 October, Scorpio on 27 October, Sagittarius on 20 November and Capricorn on 14 December. All dates are in Indian Standard Time.

Does the Venus transit matter more than my own chart for marriage?

Usually less. The transit decides which dates are open for the ceremony; the strength and placement of Venus in your birth chart and in your Navamsa, the ninth divisional chart, decide how the marriage itself tends to run. A weak natal Venus matters more than a few weeks of transit combustion. Kaal Imprint draws your chart for free from your date, time and place of birth and shows where Venus sits, and Kaal Match reads two charts together.

This page presents conventional muhurta teaching on the combustion of Venus and Jupiter applied to 2027, computed sidereally with the True Pushya Paksha ayanamsa via Swiss Ephemeris and dated in Indian Standard Time. Orbs are stated on the page and other conventions are in use; regional and family practice differs and takes precedence for any actual ceremony. Sign-change dates differ from Lahiri and tropical listings by design; combustion and station dates do not. This page does not constitute financial, medical, legal or personal advice.
