Saturn transit 2027: the Aries ingress on 23 May
2027 carries exactly one Saturn event, and it is the year's structural hinge: after two years in Pisces, Saturn crosses into Aries on 23 May. The crossing comes in the shape Saturn boundary years usually take, a first pass, a retrograde retreat and a final entry the following February. This page walks the single event in detail and routes each ascendant and Moon sign to its own reading.
The one event, in three dates
| Date | Movement | Phase |
|---|---|---|
| 23 May 2027 | Saturn enters Aries, direct motion | First pass: the preview, running five and a half months |
| 4 November 2027 | Saturn retrogrades back into Pisces | Retreat: a final encore of the 2025 to 2027 Pisces configuration |
| 11 February 2028 | Saturn re-enters Aries, direct motion | Final entry: the pass that holds until 2030 |
Saturn had been in Pisces since 20 March 2025, the pass covered on the Saturn transit hub. The 2027 boundary splits into three events because Saturn's annual retrograde loop straddles the Pisces-Aries line: the planet crosses in direct motion in May, stations, backs over the line in November and crosses again for good the following February. This is ordinary Saturn behaviour at any boundary that overlaps a station, not a special feature of 2027. The practical consequence is that the boundary is a nine month corridor rather than a single day, and both signs stay live inside it.
One note on the dates themselves: they are computed under the True Pushya Paksha ayanamsa, which sits roughly a tenth of a degree from the Lahiri anchor most sites use. Near a station that offset stretches, so published Lahiri dates for this same boundary can differ from these by weeks to months. The mechanics of that gap are covered in True Pushya Paksha vs Lahiri; neither anchor is an error, they are different conventions.
What first-pass-then-retreat means practically
The conventional way to read a split ingress is preview then consolidation. The May to November window is the preview: the Aries configuration switches on, every chart gets a first look at which life area the new placement loads and whatever the Pisces pass had been carrying goes quiet. The November to February retreat is a closing chapter for the old configuration: themes from the 2025 to 2027 Pisces years get one more visit, which classical practice tends to read as the window for finishing what that pass started rather than for opening anything new. From 11 February 2028 the Aries pass runs uninterrupted to 2030 and the preview themes consolidate into the main material.
Two cautions keep this honest. The preview-consolidation frame is a reading convention, not an observed regularity Tempora has measured; treat it as the tradition's shape for the corridor, not as a tested claim. And sign-level timing is coarse: for any individual chart the running dasha and degree-level contacts matter more than which side of a sign boundary Saturn stands on in a given month. The frame is useful for orientation and weak for scheduling.
Saturn in Aries: debilitation in plain language
Aries is the sign of Saturn's classical debilitation, its lowest dignity. The mechanical content of that label is a mismatch of methods. Aries runs on speed, first moves and unilateral action; Saturn works by accumulation, sequence and load-bearing structure. Put the slow builder in the sprinter's sign and the tradition expects friction: effort feels heavier than usual, returns arrive later than the work seems to justify and shortcuts get audited. What the label does not mean is that the years are lost. Output built under a debilitated Saturn is still real output, and the classical literature itself carves out cancellation conditions, combinations under which the debilitation register weakens or inverts for a specific chart. The plain-language version: expect to pay full price for progress between 2027 and 2030, and distrust any reading of the pass as uniformly dark. What happens when Saturn enters Aries carries the long version and the debilitation window piece stays on the boundary months.
One cohort holds a special stake: anyone born with Saturn in Aries, broadly the 1996 to 1998 sidereal births, takes their first Saturn return inside this pass, the return and the debilitation register arriving together.
What changes by ascendant
The ingress moves Saturn one whole sign house for every chart at the same moment. One line per rising sign below; each links the full 2027 page for that ascendant, and the series hub carries the shared skeleton including the year's Jupiter and node movements.
| Ascendant | Saturn moves | One-line register |
|---|---|---|
| Aries | 12th to 1st | Saturn crosses the lagna: body, identity and workload take the structural weight. |
| Taurus | 11th to 12th | The gains chapter closes and the quiet, backstage, expenditure-heavy chapter opens. |
| Gemini | 10th to 11th | The career summit ends and Saturn starts auditing networks, income streams and gains. |
| Cancer | 9th to 10th | Saturn arrives on the career angle: the profession becomes the load-bearing wall. |
| Leo | 8th to 9th | Depth work gives way to a slow audit of beliefs, teachers and long-range direction. |
| Virgo | 7th to 8th | Partnership pressure shifts into shared assets, debts and joint structures. |
| Libra | 6th to 7th | Saturn enters the seventh: partnerships and contracts carry the weight to 2030. |
| Scorpio | 5th to 6th | Saturn moves to work, health and service routines, classically one of its steadier seats. |
| Sagittarius | 4th to 5th | Foundations settle and the slow-build register moves to creative output and speculation. |
| Capricorn | 3rd to 4th | Saturn reaches the home angle: property, family base and inner foundations firm up slowly. |
| Aquarius | 2nd to 3rd | The lagna lord steps into the third: effort, skills and initiative go on the clock. |
| Pisces | 1st to 2nd | Two years of first house pressure lift; income, savings and speech take the follow-on load. |
The table compresses what each linked page unpacks: the retreat window of 4 November 2027 to 11 February 2028 replays the previous row for every sign, and the register lines are conventional whole sign readings, not chart-specific claims. If you do not know your rising sign, Kaal computes it from birth data with the same ephemeris and ayanamsa this page uses, then reads the transit against your actual houses rather than a generic table row.
Sade sati: which Moon signs change phase at the ingress
The Moon-sign count changes at the same moment. Sade sati is Saturn's crossing of the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from the natal Moon, so every Saturn ingress moves the phase boundaries for four Moon signs at once. At the 23 May 2027 crossing: Aries Moons move from the rising phase into the peak, Saturn on the Moon sign itself. Pisces Moons move from the peak into the setting phase, the closing chapter of their cycle. Taurus Moons enter the rising phase, the approach, as Saturn takes the 12th sign from their Moon. And Aquarius Moons exit the cycle, their setting phase ending when Saturn leaves Pisces, with the 4 November retreat giving them one short replay before the exit becomes permanent on 11 February 2028.
This page deliberately stops at the phase geometry. The dated windows for all twelve Moon signs, including the signs not in the cycle at all, live in sade sati 2027 to 2030 by rashi, which is the corpus reference wherever a date matters, and the mechanics of the three phases are covered in what sade sati is and the phases explainer. The standard limitation applies: phase membership is a sign-level fact, but how a phase reads for a person depends on the whole chart and the running dasha, which no table captures.
The mundane ledger: sectors and the India chart
Tempora's market-facing work treats Aries as the register of engines, metals, defence and unilateral initiative, so the sector pieces keyed to this ingress cluster around energy and hardware: EV and clean energy under Saturn in Aries, crude oil under Saturn in Aries and the AI capex piece each read one sector against the pass, always as one input among many rather than a directional claim. The national-chart reading for the year sits in the India 2027 forecast. Where any of this sharpens into a dated, testable statement it moves to the Tracker with a written test condition; this page stays at the context layer by design.
Frequently asked
What date does Saturn enter Aries in 2027?
23 May 2027 under the True Pushya Paksha ayanamsa, computed with Swiss Ephemeris. Retrogression pulls Saturn back into Pisces on 4 November 2027 and the final entry into Aries, the one that holds until 2030, comes on 11 February 2028. Lahiri-based listings place these boundaries on different dates because they use a different sidereal anchor, not because either ephemeris is wrong.
Why does Saturn enter Aries three times rather than once?
It enters twice, with a retreat in between, because Saturn retrogrades for about four and a half months every year and the 2027 retrograde loop straddles the Pisces-Aries boundary. The first entry on 23 May 2027 happens in direct motion, the retrograde carries Saturn back across the boundary on 4 November 2027 and the final direct entry on 11 February 2028 clears the boundary for good. This first-pass-then-retreat shape is normal Saturn behaviour at any sign boundary that overlaps a station.
Is Saturn debilitated in Aries, and what does that mean?
Yes, Aries is Saturn's classical debilitation sign. Mechanically it is a temperament mismatch: Aries runs on speed and unilateral initiative while Saturn works slowly and structurally. The conventional reading of the transit is friction rather than loss: effort feels heavier, returns lag the work and impatience gets expensive, but output built during the pass is still real. Individual charts can meet classical cancellation conditions that soften the register considerably.
Who feels the 2027 ingress most directly?
By house count, Aries ascendants take Saturn on the first house and Libra ascendants on the seventh, the two angles where a sign change registers most directly. By Moon count, Aries Moons move into the peak phase of sade sati at the ingress, Pisces Moons move from peak to setting, Taurus Moons enter the rising phase and Aquarius Moons leave the cycle. People born with Saturn in Aries, broadly the 1996 to 1998 sidereal cohort, also meet their first Saturn return during this pass.
Why do other sites give a different 2027 date?
Most published Vedic transit dates are computed with the Lahiri ayanamsa. Tempora computes with True Pushya Paksha, a sidereal anchor roughly a tenth of a degree away from Lahiri in the current era. Saturn covers a tenth of a degree in about three days of direct motion, and near the retrograde station the offset stretches further, so boundary dates can differ by weeks to months between the two anchors. The disagreement is a convention difference, not an error on either side.
